Dante’s 1st Birthday Party

Hi guys! We had the best day, I am so thankful to my mom for orchestrating Dante’s 1st Birthday party. She loves doing parties and is so great at finding all the pieces to put together for the display. She figured out the color scheme by looking on Etsy and Amazon and found the perfect Buzz Light year themed birthday items. Some of the toys we already had and others we grabbed while at Disney World on our last vacation. You can totally do something just as cute! If not Toy Story, any theme goes!

The cake was made by The Hudson Cakery located in Weehawken, NJ. Jennifer Bunce-Timmons is the head pastry chef and owner, and is amazing at what she does! I asked for Victorian style cake with a Toy Story theme and she was able to bring it to life! I have fallen in love with Victorian style cakes since seeing them all over social media. Fondant cakes are nice but butter cream frosting tastes so much better! The Hudson Cakery also made our white chocolate dipped Rice Crispy Treat Pops decorated like Forky and Buzz, Oreos with Toy Story Clouds or Sheriff Badges, the Green Alien cupcakes, and Luxo Ball cake pops! Our sweets and cake for my baby shower were also created by the Hudson Cakery!

Here is a little Q & A that I did with Jennifer!

S: Where are you originally from?

J: I was raised in Hillsborough, NJ and lived in Jersey City for 10 years post college   🙂

S: What made you/inspired you to become a baker?

J: I had a sweet tooth growing up and was always first to lick the batter when my mom made cupcakes . I never thought I wanted to do this for a living until I was 30! I was an event planner post-college and then changed my profession to baking in 2008. I needed to be creative and work with my hands – not stuck in an office. I graduated from the Institute of Culinary Education in NYC and opened The Hudson Cakery in 2011.

S: What does your bakery provide besides cakes, cupcakes, rice crispy treats, and Oreos?

J: We are mostly known for our custom cakes and cupcakes, but we can also make fudge brownies and dipped strawberries.

S: Do you like the new Victorian style cake that is becoming popular?

J: Yes the vintage frilly cakes are all the rage! We do them every week and they are rarely the same, we love them!

S: Where is the location to send my viewers too!? Our private studio is 1816 Willow Ave, Weehawken. The easiest way to get in touch with us to email us at least 3 weeks in advance — and follow us on IG @hudsoncakery!
